St. Pere Pescador



Sant Pere Pescador is located in Alt Empordà, in the left riverside of the river Fluvià.
The township has a stretch of 6 km of sandy beach without buildings, where we can enjoy a sunny day with tranquillity and without crowds, and we can do in the best conditions wind surf and all this kind of sports. Specially it's one of the most recognized centres of water-skiing in Spain and Europe.
We'll start our visit in the village, in the old part, with the Parish Church,
building of the 17th Century, and the castle or “Casal dels Caramanys”, with constructive factors of the 16th – 19th Centuries. Near the castle, we'll find the remains of the old Wall.
In the whole old part, there are houses of the 16th-17th and 18th Century, with interesting architectural factors, from façades to large windows, decorated with very different styles. In the Main Square (Plaza Mayor), there's a Fountain, important for its history.
Outskirts of the village, threre's the hermitage dedicated to Sant Sebastia, a popular building of the 17th-18th Century, and was built to implore to Sant Sebastia the help against the epidemics.
In the lowest lands, next to the sea and the river, there ‘s an important area with a lot of ecological value: “Els Aiguamolls de l'Emporda”. It's a National Park, where we can find different species.
We stand out the Island “Illa Caramany”, next to the mouth of the river Fluvia, place of rest of a big variety of birds.
