Palamós - La Fosca

A visit to Palamós is a good option to know a completely seaworthy village.
It should begin in one of the best viewpoint of the Costa Brava, Punta del Far, where we find the well-known rocks: La Ma de Gegant and Sa Galera, from where we can see a wonderful sight of the whole bay of Palamos.
If we go at first time in the morning, we ‘ll enjoy the fishing fleet. All the boats are placed in line going out to the sea for his day of fishing. This spectacle is worth seeing.
In the centre of the village, in the Catalunya Avenue, if we are lucky and it's a

Tuesday, we can walk along the weekly market, with the option to buy different typical products, and we would appreciate the relaxed and happy ambience of the people in a market's day.
We'll go into village to see interesting monuments and buildings, like Santa Maria's Church (Gothic, of the 15th – 16th Century), the Santa Eugenia de Villaroma's Church (11th Century), “Museo de la Pesca” (Fishing's museum), a good option to know the seaworthy tradition of the village, Major Street, and we can't forget the “Canó de Palamós” (well-known testimony of the history of the village).
We can, if we come between April and October, do the visit without getting tired, taking a small Tourist Train, which takes us for the most popular places of Palamós.
In the evening, we can't be in the town and not to attend the famous Auction of the Fish, when the boats come to the port with the fishing of the day. We can really see there the seaworthy essence of the people.
We can alternate the visits to Palamós with a route in La Fosca, where its beach and its places will give us an excellent impression of the town.
We'll find there “La Roca de La Fosca”, one of the most emblematic images of Costa Brava.
From the cove, we can arrive, with a walk along the ways surrounded with mountains and the sea, to San Esteve's Medieval Castle, emphasized in the scenery of La Fosca.
Once we have seen it, following the way, we will arrive to Cala S'Alguer and to the calm and valued beach of El Castell, next to which we meet the Iberian Settlement, where we will appreciate the archaeological Iberian remains of The 6th Century B.C. We can continue the walk, with the calmness of the nature that surrounds us, always enjoying the wonderful scenery of coves, rocks and beaches that this great place offers us.
