L'Escala



L' Escala, coastal town, located in a privileged area in the south of the Golf de Roses and in the middle of beaches and little coves, offers us landscapes and points of interest, like modern hubs next to the sea, the “Casc Antic” (the old part of the city), the medieval village of St. Martí d'Empuries. Moreover, it's an ideal place to do everything related to the sea and the sun.
It's a village dedicated to the fishing and, currently, the tourism is its activity.
We can start visiting the main places and historical monuments of the village, like the Church of Sant Pere
(18th Century), the Museum Victor Catala , or the “Afolí de Sal” (tank of salt, from the 17th Century, historical monument since 1984); and go to other little rural villages, like the village of Cinc Claus .

We have to see, near Sant Martí d'Empuries, the important and well-known archaeological ensemble of “Las Ruinas d'Empúries”, good place to enjoy a walk in a in the open air, in a background full of beauty. Now that we're there, we'll taste the important gastronomic offer, mainly based in the traditional cooking, where there'll be always present the fish.
We can alternate the cultural visits with other options that the place offers us, like doing all kind of sports (sailing or diving), or just having a pleasant day in the sandy beaches of Sant Martí

Apart of its natural places, l'Escala has kept its traditions and popular festivals (fiestas), like the Music International Festival of L'Escala, that takes place in July and August, in the archaeological enclosure of Empuries; or the Greco-Roman Fair, with the famous Historical Market, the last weekend of June, in l'Escala, where we'll be involved in the classical age, together with the characters that perform it and the products that they'll offer us.
