Blanes

Blanes, a dynamical village with more than 30.000 inhabitants, which has the tourism as a main activity, is worth seeing, among others, for its cultural and folklore activities during the whole year.
We must know its interesting patrimony, beginning by its unmistakable profile, the Tower of Sant Joan, built by order of Grau de Cabrera, currently an excellent viewpoint, where we will enjoy a splendid sight of the whole Blanes and part of the coast.
Behind the mountain of St. Joan, we find the Chapel of Santa Barbara, old Guard Tower.
We profit by our situation to go down towards the sea and go to the calm cove of Sant Francesc, where we can remain a little bit, weather permitting, to rest and to enjoy its calmness. We can't forget to visit other emblematic points of the village, as the Palace of Vescomptes de Cabrera, of the 15th Century (that was used as a barrack for the troops that went to the region), and the notable and unique Gothic Fountain, also dated of the 15th Century (built by the daughter of the Count of Prades).
We also emphasize the oldest chapel of the village, Nostra Sra De L'Antiga (1.603).
Placed to around 4 km from Blanes, we can see the Sanctuary of the Sacred image of Vilar, important attraction centre since 1.012, where the people has the tradition of, the last Sunday of October, renew the vote of the village in a solemn service.
Is worth to discover, furthermore, its natural places. That's why we will go to its interesting Botanical Gardens: Mar y Mutra, one of the most important of Europe; and Pinya de Rosa.
Another way of knowing the lifestyle in this village, would be to be a witness of the Market of the Fish. If it's a working day, we can go to the port, from 16.00 p.m, when the boats return from their fishing day and bring the fish to auction it in the Llotja del Peix. It's a spectacle that we, as visitors, can't get lost.
If we are lucky and we come between the 24th and the 28th of July, we will see the “Fiesta Mayor” of Blanes, with all his spectacle and splendour, with the spectacular fireworks that so much characterize it.
But it isn't the only way to value and take part in the local customs of the village, so different fairs and popular acts are realized, during several times of year, in order to the visitors could spend pleasant holidays, and finish it with a nice memory of this village of the Costa Brava.
