Begur



Begur has currently 3000 inhabitants, and is one of the most important tourist centres of the Baix Emporda. Is a village with a deep historical personality.
One of its main attraction is, apart from its beaches, its hereditary legacy.
The municipality is born around the “Plaça de la Vila”.
We'll make an itinerary through the main places that we can't stop visiting.
Except on Sunday, we can go to the municipal market, which offers us fresh products, like fish just fished. built over a peak from where we can see the whole region.

built over a peak from where we can see the whole region. From this point, apart from its historical interest, we'll enjoy the “Plana de l'Emporda”, the massif of Montgri and the Islands Medes.
The defence towers, had also left an evident mark in the village. They are from the 16th and 17th Century, and they were built to protect the village against the invader. The Tower of Sant Ramon and the hermitage with the same name, will be the most outstanding.
We can't forgot the Parish Church of Sant Pere, of Gothic Style (16th-17th Century).
Very near to the Church, we'll find some houses built by the Indians (people who went to America to try their luck), with beautiful gallery with arcs and spiritual paintings.
There's, in the area south-east, the village of Esclanyà, a small group of stone houses around a Romanesque Church of Sant Esteve (11rst – 12th Century). In this place, there's the castle “Torre d'Esclanya”.
We'll make a pleasant walk through the “Camino de Ronda”, which joins the beach of Sa Riera and the beach of Pals. We'll enjoy their wonderful views, overall, the massif of Begur.
